Meet AJ Henderson
A native of Emory, Va., AJ Henderson joined the Georgia Southern Athletics Communications staff in January 2011 following an 18-month stint at Presbyterian College. He is the Athletics Department’s Staff Photographer and graphic designer, creating stunning images that tell the Georgia Southern story. In August 2019 Henderson shifted from his previous role as Assistant Director of Athletics Communications to lead the design efforts within the Creative Services Department at Georgia Southern.
In his role with the Creative Services Department, the Eagles have improved their social media engagement rates, now ranking among the Top-10 programs in the Group of Five. His photography has been honored multiple times by the NCAA as “Photo of the Week.”
In his previous role, Henderson was responsible for the day-to-day communications of multiple sports at Georgia Southern, working with the Football, Baseball, Men’s Basketball, Softball, Men’s Soccer, Cross Country, Track & Field, Women’s Soccer and Rifle programs over his tenure.
He has also worked as color commentator on Men’s Basketball radio broadcasts with the Georgia Southern Sports Network and has been heavily involved with video productions at the University. He served as a producer on the Blue-White Weekly Television Show, creating highlight tapes and behind the scenes social media content to take fans past the box score.
Before joining the staff at Georgia Southern, Henderson was Assistant Director of Sports Information/Game Management at Presbyterian College where he worked with the Football, Women’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Softball and Baseball teams.
Henderson joined the Blue Hose staff after a one-year internship at the Atlantic Coast Conference office where he served as primary contact with ACC Volleyball, Field Hockey, Track & Field, Swimming & Diving and Softball. He was also the secondary contact with Football and Women’s Basketball.
After graduating from Florida State University in 2007, Henderson worked for a year at Appalachian State University where he was assigned to work with the Mountaineers’ Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Wrestling, and Softball teams. He helped assist with the communications efforts following the football team’s upset win over Michigan and the program’s third consecutive National Championship.
While an undergraduate at Florida State, Henderson worked two and a half years in the school’s Sports Information Office where he worked with a number of different sports. As a senior, Henderson was promoted to Student Assistant and worked with the Swimming & Diving teams, winning the 2007 ACC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship.
Henderson was a member of the Football, Baseball and Golf teams at Patrick Henry High School. An avid golfer, Henderson overcomes his handicap of playing left-handed. In his free time, he laments the misfortunes of the Chicago Cubs, attends U.S. National Team soccer matches, and follows Formula 1.
